Up of Arlie Kendal
Arlie Kendall (Anishinaabe) produces and hosts
Hand Of Grandfather, Music Of The First Nations which has
been on the air in Colorado on KYGT (K-Goat) in Idaho Springs
since October 2000 and on the national airwaves on XM Satellite
Radio since May of 2002.
Arlie is a Native music vendor at powwows in the Rocky Mountain
area and continues a career, started in 1992, doing voice-over
work. The marriage of these professions seemed destined to
spawn her radio baby, Hand Of Grandfather. Blending her knowledge
of Native music and her passion for it, Arlie’s smooth
voice and warm style offer a perfect forum for presenting
indigenous music to the listening public.
On the personal side, Arlie is involved in the Denver Native
community doing volunteer work with native inmates, participates
with Transform Columbus Day activities, helps to promote several
Native organizations and, at one time, was an ICWA (Indian
Child Welfare Act) foster mom. She enjoys doing beadwork,
reading and listening to music. Dislikes include okra and
mean people.
Hand of Grandfather, a weekly one hour radio
program, offers an eclectic mix of American Indian and Canadian
First Nations music including historical, peyote, powwow (Southern
& Northern drums), flutes, traditional and contemporary
music (including jazz, rock, blues, country and techno) as
well as children's music, humor, soundtracks and legends told
by traditional storytellers. All artists are tribally affiliated.
